> **⚠️ Coming from the AI Foundry portal?** The portal's "View sample app code" gives you AI resource variables, but this app also needs an **Entra ID app registration** for authentication — which is created by `azd up`. Even if your AI Foundry resources already exist, you must run `azd up` before the app will work. See the [Foundry portal setup](#coming-from-the-ai-foundry-portal) section below.
